The largest land mammal on earth, roaming Uganda's vast savannahs, forests, and wetlands. They communicate through sounds, touch and vibrations and live in family herds led by the oldest female, called the matriarch.

A Symbol of Conservation

The second largest land mammal on earth and can eat 50–60 kg of short grass every day. Their wide square mouth works like a natural lawnmower. They have two horns made of keratin, the same material as human hair and nails.

Hippopotamus

The River Giant

A powerful river giant, mainly feed on grass. Despite their heavy appearance, they are excellent swimmers and can move quickly on land. They spend most of the day submerged in water to keep their bodies cool. Although they live in water, they do not eat fish.

Rothschild's Giraffe

Uganda's Tallest Giant

A giant and the tallest land animal on earth with powerful legs and can run up to 55 km/h. They have long necks containing only seven vertebrae, the same number as humans. A giraffe can eat up to 30–50 kg of vegetation daily.

The Mighty Savannah Giant

A powerful herd animal representing the raw beauty and strength of Uganda's wilderness. They are highly social animals that live in herds. They have strong social bonds and protect weaker members. They use group defence strategies against predators.
